18th September 2021 is World Bamboo Day

World Bamboo Day is designed to promote increased awareness of bamboo across the globe. Bamboo is part of the grass family and is used in a multitude of different products from our own socks to flooring to kitchen utensils and even toilet paper! This evergreen perennial has the ability to regenerate, so it will continue to grow from the root after it has been harvested, eliminating the need for potentially costly re-planting of new crops.

As mentioned elsewhere, bamboo is extremely fast growing, with one type reaching 91cm in just 24 hours! Bamboo is classed as an renewable, eco-friendly and sustainable material.

It is estimated that there are more than two billion hectares - of deforested or degraded land around the world needing to have new life breathed. Through World Bamboo Day, The World Bamboo Organisation is working towards using bamboo to help conserve natural resources and ensure crops both for new industries, as well as supporting traditional uses for local community economic development.

Here at Socks In A Box, we’re already aware of the benefits of bamboo, not just for the environment, but also for our feet! As such, we’re extremely happy to show our support for World Bamboo Day by offering a 10% discount across all our bamboo sock products using BAMBOODAY10 at the checkout until 20th September. Hopefully this will encourage people to try bamboo socks and realise the benefits, not only for their feet, but for the planet too.
